Houston Museum Guide

Holocaust Museum of Houston

The Holocaust Museum of Houston presents artifacts, photographs and film footage that documents pre-war life in Europe, the Holocaust and its effects. The museum features a standing history exhibit in addition to seasonal art exhibits. The Holocaust Museum of Houston strives to educate the public about the horrors of the Holocaust and teaching the dangers of hatred, prejudice and apathy. In addition to its standing and temporary exhibits, the museum also displays a Holocaust-era railcar used to transport captive Jews to concentration camps and a Danish rescue boat that was used to rescue a great deal of survivors.

The John C. Freeman Weather Museum

The John C. Freeman Weather Museum is the nation’s first weather museum. Beginning as an outreach project of the Weather Research Center, this one-of-a-kind museum contains a weather history exhibit with antique meteorology equipment, a cyclone room with its own cyclone chamber, a theater, a “weather wizard” corner with demonstrations by meteorologists and even a TV studio with a teleprompter and a green screen where guests can tape themselves delivering a weather report.

Houston Museum of Natural Science

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is one of the most heavily attended museums in the United States. The museum houses a planetarium, a giant screen theater, a butterfly exhibit and a fascinating array of other exhibits featuring astronomy, earth science, Native American culture, paleontology, energy, gems and minerals, seashells, Texas wildlife and much more. In addition to this, the museum also maintains two additional facilities: the George Observatory which houses two of the largest telescopes in the country and the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugarland.

 

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is the largest cultural institution in the southwest United States. The collections of the MFAH contain American art, European paintings, pre-Columbian and African gold, decorative arts and design, photography, prints and drawings, modern and contemporary painting and sculpture and Latin American art. The MFAH also contains a cinema, two research libraries and public archives.

Contemporary Arts Museum Houston

Located in the heart the Museum District, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston prides itself on presenting new art and documenting its role in modern life. What Would It Be Like to Move… The Houston Space Center

If you’re not familiar with the Houston Space Center, you must be living on the moon!  It is the official visitor center for the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center—NASA’s center for space flight activities.  If you remember “Houston, we have a problem,” then you’ve heard of them.  In the 60’s, NASA’s mission control was located near here (you can tour the mission control facilities when you visit the Space Center).  Today, the Space Center stands as a monument to NASA’s accomplishments, serves as an all ages interactive educational resource, and offers programs where school children can experience what it’s like to work for NASA.

Everyone in Houston should visit the Space Center at least once in their lives, but we have to imagine that moving the Space Center would require more than a single trip!  Let’s blast off on an imagination vacation in T-minus 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…

What Would It Be Like to Move the Space Center?

First off:  Space Rocks.  The Space Center has plenty of them, and you have to imagine that they’re too heavy to comfortably lift and carry around without professional assistance.  NASA scientists may know their stuff, but this is a job for the pros!  They need a mover.  We would build custom crates for these scientific treasures transport with a temperature controlled truck. One great attraction during the colder months is the Kemah Boardwalk. There is so much to do here at this seaside marvel that you and kids both will find it to be a treasure. Another great region of the city that has inspired creative thought and stimulated young minds for years now is theHouston Museum District. So you’re moving from Houston and needing to get rid of a bunch of household items that have gone unused for a period of time and/or have just overstayed their welcome. We have a few suggestions that might help to make sure you are getting the most out of your moving sale.

A couple of the hardest challenges for most people are choosing between items that need to go and items that need to stay and also how to get the most money for the items you are getting rid of.

After you have decided to have a sale, from the beginning make sure to get your whole family involved. The last thing you want to do is sell an item that has a specific use and/or sentimental value to someone. Be sure your kids and/or spouse are involved in the process of deciding what goes and what stays. Your kids and other family members can also provide a good channel of advertising, to get the word out about the moving sale. Everyone likes a good deal on gently used merchandise, they just need to know where and when to get it!

Be sure to have the sale at a good location, preferably one with a lot of drive by traffic. Be sure that people can get to your sale easily and also make sure that you are not violating any city codes, like in regards to signage.
